Asset/Setting: PMT7 Land Drilling Rig Job Overview
Responsible for the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment on PMT7's land drilling rig. Ensures the availability and reliability of electrical power generation and distribution systems, drilling equipment, control systems, and other electrical installations required for safe and efficient rig operations. Implements preventive and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with the Company's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), OEM recommendations, approved maintenance procedures, and applicable HSE requirements. Supervises assigned electrical personnel, maintains appropriate electrical spare parts and maintenance records, and works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, Rig Manager, and other rig personnel to minimize equipment downtime and support continuous drilling operations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct routine inspections, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and systems on the rig. Operate, maintain, and repair power generation and distribution equipment, including generators, engine controls, SCR systems, switchgear, transformers, motor control centres, and associated equipment. Maintain and repair electrical components of drilling equipment, including the Driller's Console, drilling motors and auxiliaries, Top Drive System, drawworks, mud pumps, and related equipment. Maintain and repair general rig electrical equipment, including HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, lighting systems, communication systems, electrical panels, motors, and auxiliary systems. Diagnose electrical faults and implement corrective actions to minimise equipment downtime and maintain operational reliability. Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, technical manuals, and OEM documentation. Perform and interpret electrical tests and calculations, including insulation resistance, power factor, protection relay, load, and other required electrical tests. Coordinate electrical maintenance and repair activities with the Maintenance Supervisor, Rig Manager, and other relevant rig personnel. Report technical problems, equipment limitations, and electrical defects that may affect the safe or efficient operation of the rig.
Implement preventive maintenance activities in accordance with the Company's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), approved maintenance schedules, and OEM recommendations. Ensure scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance activities are completed within required timelines. Maintain accurate and timely records of inspections, maintenance activities, equipment failures, repairs, and corrective actions. Ensure relevant electrical equipment is appropriately captured within the CMMS with applicable operating manuals, maintenance manuals, and spare parts information. Provide technical information required for the development and improvement of preventive maintenance routines. Track and support the close-out of outstanding electrical maintenance actions and recommendations arising from inspections, audits, equipment failures, and technical reviews. Provide maintenance information required for planning, reporting, and budget preparation.
Monitor the condition and performance of critical electrical equipment to identify potential failures before they affect operations. Troubleshoot electrical and control system faults and determine appropriate corrective actions. Support root cause analysis of recurring electrical failures and equipment breakdowns. Recommend improvements to electrical systems, maintenance practices, and equipment reliability where required. Communicate significant equipment failures and breakdown information through the appropriate reporting line for onshore technical support where required.
Monitor electrical spare parts, consumables, tools, and critical equipment requirements necessary to support rig operations. Maintain adequate levels of critical electrical spares and initiate requisitions in a timely manner. Support the identification and technical specification of replacement electrical components and equipment. Ensure electrical spare parts, tools, and materials are appropriately stored, preserved, and controlled. Provide information required for electrical maintenance and spare parts planning.
Ensure electrical activities are carried out in accordance with PMT7 HSE requirements, approved procedures, and applicable regulatory standards. Comply with and enforce the Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical isolation, and other applicable safe systems of work. Prepare and participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), toolbox talks, pre-job meetings, and other risk assessment activities. Report incidents, unsafe conditions, potential hazards, equipment defects, and abnormal operating conditions through the appropriate reporting line. Participate actively in safety meetings, emergency drills, inspections, audits, and other HSE activities. Support the implementation and close-out of recommendations arising from client inspections, regulatory inspections, internal audits, and rig management reviews. Maintain high standards of housekeeping within electrical workshops, equipment rooms, and assigned work areas. Demonstrate safety leadership and ensure assigned personnel comply with Company HSE requirements. Team Supervision & Development: Supervise and coordinate the activities of electricians and other personnel assigned to electrical maintenance activities. Allocate work and ensure assigned electrical tasks are completed safely, correctly, and within required timelines. Ensure personnel under supervision possess the required competence, training, and certification for their assigned responsibilities. Coach, mentor, and develop electrical personnel through structured on-the-job training and practical supervision. Supervise crew members participating in applicable On-the-Job Training (OJT) programmes. Support performance reviews and provide feedback on the performance, competency, and development requirements of assigned personnel. Maintain appropriate discipline and ensure compliance with Company policies, procedures, and rig requirements. Monitor the validity of required personal and subordinate certifications and training in line with the applicable training matrix.
