The Chief Financial Officer will provide strategic financial leadership and oversee the company’s financial operations across its engineering, construction, and other business activities. The role requires sound financial management, effective internal controls, regulatory compliance, project cost management, and strategic financial planning to support business growth and profitability.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Provide strategic financial advice to management on business performance, investments, funding, and growth opportunities. Lead budgeting, financial planning, forecasting, and cash flow management. Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Monitor project budgets, contract costs, cash flows, profitability, and financial commitments across engineering and construction projects. Establish effective cost control measures and monitor project expenditure against approved budgets. Manage banking relationships, treasury operations, working capital, and funding requirements. Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws, statutory deductions, financial reporting standards, and other regulatory requirements. Develop and maintain effective internal controls, financial policies, and risk management systems. Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure implementation of audit recommendations. Provide financial oversight for procurement, subcontractor payments, project claims, contract variations, and client billing. Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend measures to improve operational efficiency and profitability. Lead, supervise, and develop the Finance and Accounts team. Present financial reports, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to management and the Board.

General Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is an added advantage.

Membership of a recognized professional accounting body, such as ICAN or ACCA, is required.

Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in finance and accounting. At least 5 years in a senior financial management or leadership role. Demonstrable experience in financial planning, budgeting, treasury management, financial reporting, and internal controls. Experience in engineering, construction, electrical infrastructure, or other project-based businesses is strongly preferred. Practical experience in project costing, contract financial management, cash flow forecasting, and cost control is essential.

Strong strategic financial management and analytical skills. Sound knowledge of financial reporting standards, taxation, and statutory compliance. Good knowledge of accounting software and financial management systems, with the ability to use them for reporting, reconciliations, and financial analysis. Good understanding of construction project costing, contract management, cash flow, and profitability analysis. Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in accounting software, financial management systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel. High standards of integrity, accountability, confidentiality, and professionalism. Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
