Role Overview
Oversees the Transport Logistics Function of Dangote Cement Transport, encompassing domestic and international cement transportation, as well as inbound logistics. This position involves managing and coordinating logistics operations to ensure efficient cement distribution, optimize goods movement cost-effectiveness, and maintain product availability for customers.
Primary Responsibilities
Direct overall DCT fleet operations, including truck assets, personnel, finances, cash flow, facilities, and customer satisfaction, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and objectives.
Develop and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiencies in inbound and outbound logistics, while improving service quality and reducing expenses.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with third-party service providers within the supply chain, ensuring compliance with agreed-upon service levels.
Coordinate optimal planning for inbound and outbound materials logistics in DCT, ensuring timely delivery to relevant intra-country locations (plants, depots, customers, etc.).
Facilitate the outbound movement of products from plants to customers and depots.
Work with relevant departments to establish and adhere to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Implement and monitor performance measurement systems for transport operations, advising management on truck and equipment replacement needs.
Create risk management programs to ensure supply continuity during emergencies or delivery disruptions.
Manage DCT's transportation infrastructure and assets optimally.
Ensure product transit and delivery comply with DCT's policies and procedures.
Supervise maintenance of DCT trucks under your purview and enforce minimum order requirements.
Optimize department performance by effectively managing human and material resources.
Delegate responsibilities to subordinates and oversee their work to ensure timely, high-quality results.
Provide motivation, guidance, and facilitate knowledge transfer and capacity building for subordinates.
Evaluate and authorize key departmental expenditures in line with approved budgets and authority guidelines.
Conduct regular meetings to communicate goals and agree on work plans.
Develop career plans for departmental staff in collaboration with HR and conduct periodic performance appraisals.
Compile and submit regular activity reports to the Head, DCT Nigeria.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head, DCT Nigeria.
Qualifications
Education and Professional Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent discipline.
Postgraduate degree in a relevant field.
Professional certification in transport, logistics operations/management, supply chain management, or related area is preferred.
Minimum 20 years of work experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management role.
Required Competencies
Comprehensive understanding of the cement industry's trends, challenges, opportunities, and regulatory environment.
In-depth knowledge of the organization's products and services.
Expertise in supply chain management principles and methodologies.
Strong familiarity with export, import, and local transportation laws in Nigeria and DCT's operational areas.
Solid understanding of distribution and logistics networks in Nigeria and DCT's regions of operation.
Working knowledge of logistics HSE policies.
Ability to work independently and proactively, demonstrating maturity, resilience, and responsibility.
Exceptional leadership and people management skills.
Strong negotiation and relationship management abilities.
Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
