Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer (Abeokuta)

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer is tasked with implementing and overseeing workplace health and safety policies and procedures across ReelFruit's factory. This role ensures complete adherence to regulatory standards, maintains safe working conditions for all factory personnel, and supports sustainable environmental practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Supervision & Risk Management


Perform regular safety inspections across factory floors and work areas
Recognize and mitigate hazards in real-time
Oversee use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and ensure compliance


Incident Investigation & Reporting


Spearhead prompt investigations of factory-related incidents, accidents, or near-misses
Record findings and follow up on corrective and preventive actions
Deliver weekly and monthly HSE reports to factory management


Training & Awareness


Organize regular health and safety training for factory staff
Coordinate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety briefings
Keep training attendance records and monitor safety behavior trends


Environmental Management


Guarantee proper waste segregation, storage, and disposal
Track emissions, water usage, and chemical handling in compliance with regulations
Lead factory-wide sustainability initiatives


Regulatory Compliance


Ensure factory activities adhere to OSHA, NESREA, and other local regulations
Interact with government safety and environmental agencies during audits or visits
Maintain up-to-date HSE documentation, licenses, and permits


Emergency Preparedness & Response




Execute fire drills and evacuation simulations quarterly
Verify that first aid kits and fire safety equipment are regularly inspected and functional
Collaborate with security and admin for emergency readiness


Educational Qualification & Experience:


B.Sc./HND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
Minimum of 3 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing or FMCG factory setting
Certified in HSE/NEBOSH/OSHA/ISO 45001 or equivalent
Comprehensive understanding of Nigerian HSE laws and compliance protocols
Exceptional observation, communication, and report-writing skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital HSE tools
