We are seeking a well-established indigenous civil engineering and construction company in Port Harcourt, delivering construction, civil works, engineering, procurement and project-management solutions across Nigeria. As the company expands its project portfolio, we are looking for a highly competent, Certified, and experienced Project Engineer to take responsibility for the technical coordination, execution, quality and day-to-day engineering control of assigned construction projects. This Is not a desk-bound Engineering role. We need an engineer who understands what happens on the drawings, on the site and in between someone who can coordinate people, materials, equipment and technical requirements and ensure that work is delivered safely, correctly, on schedule and to specification. The successful candidate will provide technical and engineering leadership on assigned construction projects, working closely with the Project Manager, Site Supervisors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and client representatives. You will be responsible for translating project designs and specifications into well-coordinated, technically sound and efficiently executed site activities.


Key Responsibilities
Project Execution:

Coordinate and supervise day-to-day engineering and construction activities on assigned projects. Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements and project requirements. Plan and coordinate site activities to achieve project milestones and delivery targets. Monitor productivity, resources and progress against the project programme. Identify potential delays, technical constraints and construction risks and recommend practical solutions. Coordinate labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor activities to optimize project delivery.


Technical & Engineering Control:

Review construction drawings, specifications and other technical documents before and during execution. Interpret drawings and communicate technical requirements clearly to site teams. Identify discrepancies, design conflicts and constructability issues and escalate them appropriately. Prepare and review method statements, work plans, inspection requests and technical documentation where required. Ensure construction work complies with approved designs, engineering standards and applicable regulations. Provide practical engineering solutions to challenges encountered during construction.


Quality Assurance & Quality Control:

Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved specifications and quality requirements. Coordinate inspections and testing of construction works and materials. Ensure defective or non-conforming work is identified and corrected promptly. Maintain appropriate quality records and project documentation. Work with consultants and client representatives during inspections and technical reviews.


Project Monitoring & Reporting:

Prepare regular engineering and project progress reports. Track actual progress against project schedules and planned milestones. Monitor quantities, materials usage and site productivity. Provide accurate technical information to support project planning and decision-making. Participate in project meetings and provide engineering updates to management.


Site Coordination:

Coordinate effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, surveyors, artisans and other project personnel. Liaise with consultants and client representatives on technical and construction matters. Provide technical direction to site teams within the scope of the role. Ensure proper site documentation and records are maintained. Support project mobilization, execution, completion and handover activities.

Health, Safety & Environment:

Promote strict compliance with project HSE requirements. Ensure engineering and construction activities are executed using safe work practices. Identify construction hazards and support appropriate risk-control measures. Stop and escalate unsafe work where necessary.


Mandatory Professional Requirements:
You Must Have All of the Following:

Bachelor's degree (B.Eng./B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Valid COREN registration/certification. Current membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). Minimum 5 years' relevant post-graduation experience in civil engineering/construction. Proven hands-on experience on building, civil works or infrastructure construction projects. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, site operations and engineering practices. Ability to interpret and work confidently with engineering drawings, specifications and technical documents. Demonstrable experience coordinating site activities and construction teams. Strong knowledge of construction quality control and HSE requirements. Strong reporting, documentation and communication skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet project deadlines. Willingness to work at project locations across Nigeria when required.

You'll Stand Out If You Have:

Experience managing multiple construction activities simultaneously. Experience in high-rise buildings, roads, drainage, structural works, rehabilitation or other major civil works. Experience working with consultants, government agencies and corporate clients. Strong knowledge of construction planning and scheduling. Proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Project/Primavera P6, MS Excel or other relevant engineering/project-management tools. Experience with quantity measurement, BOQ interpretation and cost monitoring. Experience preparing method statements, progress reports and technical submissions. PMP or other recognized project-management certification. Experience working within an ISO-oriented construction environment.
