Project Manager, Large Scale Food Fortification

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is recruiting a Project Manager to provide functional, technical, and managerial leadership for projects and teams within the Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) Portfolio. This position is offered as a two-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension beyond November 2025 subject to funding availability. The role will be based in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Large-Scale Food Fortification portfolio focuses on strengthening fortification governance mechanisms, implementing systems innovations, engaging stakeholders, building capacity, providing technical assistance, and generating and disseminating fortification knowledge.

The Project Manager will lead a high-performing cross-functional project team, establish and maintain relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders globally and in Nigeria (such as NAFDAC, SON, FCCPC, FMoH, staple food producers, and millers). They will be responsible for overall project management leadership and ensure the project team implements activities within approved plans, budgets, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities include


Provide strategic leadership in designing, planning, and implementing LSFF projects in Nigeria according to GAIN Project Management Guidelines (PMG).
Spearhead the next phase of digital traceability system implementation and scale-up with key stakeholders: fortified staple food producers/millers, premix companies, and regulatory agencies to enhance food fortification compliance in Nigeria.
Lead innovations in LSFF, including establishing an Innovations Fund for LSFF in Nigeria, a platform to advance innovations in collaboration with three major regulatory agencies.
Strengthen the capacity of key stakeholders, including fortified food producers, laboratories, local premix blenders, and government agencies to monitor both food processors and premix blenders.
Lead advocacy and accountability initiatives involving private sector leaders (e.g., CEOs), public sectors, third-party advocates, implementing partners, and other key stakeholders to scale up new programs (e.g., rice) and improve existing programs.
Monitor risks, develop contingency plans to respond to emergencies, and escalate issues when appropriate.
Lead a high-performing project team comprising individuals across the portfolio and organization, bringing together the skills, experience, and competencies required for successful project delivery.


About you


The ideal candidate should demonstrate experience in leading multi-sectoral efforts across government, private sector, and development partners within the food fortification space. Previous experience in strengthening fortification governance mechanisms, implementing systems innovations, capacity building, and providing technical assistance is crucial for success in this role.
Extensive stakeholder management experience at senior levels, especially with government agencies and fortification industry players, is required, combined with highly developed project management skills.
Prior experience in strengthening the capacity of fortified food producers, laboratories, local premix blenders, and government agencies to monitor both food processors and premix blenders is essential.
Highly developed project management skills are crucial for success in this role due to the numerous different stakeholders and industry dynamics involved.
