Project Overview
Applied Water Resources Management in the Lake Chad Basin II
This regional initiative, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Lake Chad Basin Commission, aims to enhance the LCBC's capacity to advise member countries on transboundary water resource management. The focus is on environmentally friendly, climate-adaptive, gender-sensitive, and conflict-reducing approaches.
The LCBC and its member states (Cameroon, Chad, CAR, Nigeria, Niger, and Libya) face multifaceted challenges, including Lake Chad's shrinkage, climate variability, recurrent droughts, population pressure, and growing insecurity. To address these issues, the LCBC has developed strategic documents such as the Strategic Action Program (SAP) 2023-2027, Regional Stabilization Strategy, and LCBC Vision 2025.
This project supports the LCBC in implementing the Water Charter and SAP for 2023-2037, focusing on three results areas and six performance indicators across central, regional, and local levels.
