Job Title: Senior Geologist
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Job Type: Full time
Reports to: Assistant Manager, OML 60-63 Asset. Job Summary
To provide advanced geophysical and geological expertise for reservoir characterization, seismic interpretation, static modelling, volumetrics and well planning to support field development, reserves maturation, drilling operations, and reservoir management. The role ensures high-quality subsurface evaluations, integrates multidisciplinary datasets, and drives optimal decision-making for hydrocarbon asset value maximization.
Key Responsibility Areas (Kras) & Initiatives
Lead the development, integration, and updating of 3D static reservoir models (structural, facies, and petrophysical modelling). Integrate seismic, geological, petrophysical, core, and reservoir engineering datasets to deliver accurate reservoir descriptions and uncertainty analyses. Generate reservoir quality maps, volumetrics, and scenario-based models to support infill drilling, field development planning, and reserves estimation. ▪ Ensure modelling workflows follow subsurface assurance guidelines, data quality standards, and corporate modelling protocols. Support reservoir surveillance initiatives by integrating production and pressure data into dynamic/static model updates.
Conduct advanced 3D seismic interpretation for structural definition, reservoir delineation, stratigraphic analysis, and prospect identification. Apply modern geophysical tools including AVO/AVA, seismic inversion, spectral decomposition, rock physics, and attribute analysis for reservoir prediction and fluid characterization. Provide QC oversight for seismic acquisition and processing projects to ensure optimal data quality. Develop and maintain seismic databases, interpretation projects, and geophysical technical documentation. Generate subsurface maps (structure maps, isopach maps, facies distribution maps), to support reservoir delineation and well placement decisions.
Well Planning, Drilling Support & Operational Geoscience:
Lead subsurface input into well planning processes including well trajectory design, target definition, hazard assessment, and drilling risk mitigation. Provide real-time geoscience support during drilling operations (geosteering, stratigraphic correlation, LWD/MWD interpretation). Prepare end-of-well reports, geological prognosis documents, and post-drill evaluations. Collaborate closely with drilling, reservoir engineering, and production teams to ensure safe and optimized execution of drilling campaigns. Evaluate and recommend opportunities for sidetracks, re-entries, and well interventions.
Field Development, Reserves & Regulatory/Partner Support:
Contribute to Field Development Plans (FDPs), Reservoir Management Plans (RMPs), and annual reserves reviews. Prepare subsurface technical documentation for regulatory submissions, JV partner reviews, and internal approvals. Support reserves reporting (1P/2P/3P) through rigorous subsurface analysis and documentation aligned with SPE-PRMS standards. Participate in technical workshops, peer assists, partner technical meetings, and regulatory engagements. Track, update, and maintain technical deliverables required for well approvals, development decisions, and subsurface assurance.
Research, Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
Identify and implement new technologies, workflows, and software tools (AI/ML subsurface analytics, advanced inversion, 4D seismic). Document lessons learned, update best practices, and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives within the department. Mentor junior geoscientists, providing technical guidance and reviewing work to maintain high-quality subsurface deliverables. Ensure data integrity, digital compliance, and adherence to corporate subsurface governance standards. Support improvements in modelling workflows, seismic interpretation practices, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
BSc or MSc in Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences, or related subsurface discipline. 8–12 years of experience in geophysics/geology roles within oil & gas E&P environments.
Membership in recognized professional bodies (NAPE, AAPG, SEG, EAGE, NMGS). Advanced training in seismic interpretation, reservoir modelling, or rock physics (advantageous).
2D/3D seismic interpretation and mapping 3D static reservoir modelling (structure, facies, petrophysics) Prospect generation and risk assessment Well planning, drilling operations support, and geosteering. Integration of core, logs, seismic, and production data Use of major subsurface software (Petrel, Kingdom, Hampson-Russell, Tnavigator, Decisionspace) Reservoir surveillance interpretation and volumetric estimation.
Additional (Desirable) Experience:
Experience with 4D seismic, advanced inversion, AI/ML geoscience tools Exposure to carbonate/clastic reservoirs and deepwater environments Knowledge of reserves reporting standards (SPE-PRMS) Familiarity with petroleum system modelling or geomechanics Expert in interpretation of structural/stratigraphic features, seismic attributes, and fault/fracture systems. Builds and updates 3D geological models incorporating facies, petrophysical properties, and uncertainties. Applies inversion, AVO/AVA, and rock physics techniques to enhance reservoir prediction. Combines geological, geophysical, petrophysical, and production data into coherent subsurface models. Designs well trajectories, identifies hazards, and supports geosteering and realtime drilling decisions. Contributes to surveillance reviews, reserves maturation, and optimization of field development strategies. Ensures integrity, quality control, and lifecycle management of seismic, well, and modelling data. Prepares technical materials for regulatory submissions, JV reviews, and external audits.
