We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled enior News Editor to join our newsroom. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing news production, maintaining high editorial standards, and ensuring the timely delivery of accurate, compelling, and relevant news content across our radio and digital platforms.
Lead and supervise the newsroom team in the preparation, editing, and delivery of news bulletins and programmes. Review, edit, and approve news scripts to ensure accuracy, clarity, balance, and compliance with established editorial standards. Coordinate daily news coverage and determine editorial priorities based on developing local, national, and international stories. Assign stories and provide editorial direction to reporters, correspondents, and other newsroom personnel. Monitor breaking news and ensure timely and accurate coverage across the station's platforms. Maintain high standards of journalistic integrity, impartiality, accuracy, and professionalism. Ensure all news content complies with relevant broadcasting regulations, media laws, and the station's editorial policies. Mentor and provide professional guidance to reporters, presenters, and junior editorial staff. Work closely with the Head of News and other departments to develop compelling news programmes and special reports. Conduct final editorial checks before news bulletins and major reports are aired. Monitor competing news outlets and emerging developments to ensure the station remains relevant and competitive. Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to the strategic development of the newsroom.
Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, English, Broadcasting, Media Studies, or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in journalism, broadcasting, or news editing, preferably within a radio station or reputable media organisation. Demonstrable experience in a senior editorial or newsroom leadership capacity. Strong knowledge of radio news production, editorial processes, and newsroom operations. Excellent news judgement, writing, editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills. Strong understanding of media ethics, broadcasting regulations, and journalistic standards. Ability to manage breaking news situations and work effectively under tight deadlines. Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills. Good understanding of current affairs and local, national, and international developments. Proficiency in digital newsroom tools and the ability to adapt news content for online and social media platforms.
