Job Title: Site HSE Officer
Location: Calabar, Cross River
Employment Type: Full-time
Purpose
To ensure the effective implementation and compliance of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and regulations across the plant, preventing workplace injuries and promoting a safe and healthy working environment.
The Job
Driving the implementation of Critical to Safety (CSP) and Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) programmes to promote a strong safety culture across the site.
Identifying workplace hazards and risks and implementing appropriate control measures to prevent accidents and incidents.
Participating in HSE audits and ensuring timely closure of all identified audit gaps.
Reviewing and periodically testing site emergency response plans to ensure operational effectiveness.
Conducting risk assessments and developing Safe Systems of Work (SSW) for technical and hazardous activities.
Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
Issuing Permit-to-Work (PTW) approvals for non-routine and hazardous tasks carried out by employees and contractors.
Monitoring the effectiveness of Integrated Pest Management programmes to protect products from infestation and contamination.
Conducting regular hygiene and housekeeping inspections to maintain high plant sanitation standards.
Qualification and Experience
OND in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Must have 1–2 years' cognate experience in an HSE role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
The Person Must:Possess strong knowledge of occupational health and safety practices and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrate excellent hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation skills.
Have the ability to influence safe behaviours and drive compliance across all levels of the organisation.
Possess strong presentation, communication, and training facilitation skills.
