Job Title: Trainee Agronomist
Location: Omoku, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Purpose
To support the Agronomist and Farm Management team in the planning, monitoring, and execution of crop production activities, while developing practical knowledge and skills in modern agricultural and agronomic practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in daily monitoring of crops for healthy growth, pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
Assist with planting, transplanting, pruning, training, irrigation, fertigation, and harvesting activities.
Monitor crop growth and maintain accurate production records.
Assist in soil, water, and plant sampling and basic analysis.
Support the preparation and application of fertilizers and crop nutrients as directed.
Assist in identifying and reporting pests, diseases, weeds, and other crop problems.
Support implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
Monitor irrigation and fertigation systems and report faults promptly.
Assist in maintaining appropriate environmental conditions in greenhouse production.
Participate in crop scouting and recommend corrective actions under supervision.
Assist in determining crop maturity and harvest requirements.
Ensure proper handling, grading, and storage of harvested produce.
Maintain accurate records of inputs, crop activities, yields, losses, and farm observations.
Ensure compliance with farm safety, hygiene, biosecurity, and environmental procedures.
Assist with trials and experiments aimed at improving crop yield, quality, and productivity.
Work closely with farm attendants and other production staff to ensure proper execution of farm activities.
Perform any other agricultural duties assigned by the Farm Manager or Senior Agronomist.
QualificationsB.Sc./B.Tech./HND in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related discipline.
Fresh graduates or candidates with limited practical experience are encouraged to apply.
Basic knowledge of crop production, plant nutrition, and pest and disease management.
Knowledge of greenhouse/hydroponic production is an added advantage.
