An auditor inspects, analyzes, and evaluates financial records and operational processes to ensure accuracy, verify legal compliance, and spot risks or fraud. They write detailed reports and give advice to help businesses run safely and efficiently.
Core Responsibilities
Examine records: Check financial statements, ledgers, and accounts for mistakes or missing data. Test controls: Review internal company rules to see if assets are protected. Ensure compliance: Confirm adherence to laws, regulations, and standards like GAAP or IFRS. Assess risk: Find financial or operational weaknesses that could lead to loss or fraud. Report findings: Write clear audit reports and present solutions to managers or stakeholders.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; certifications like a CPA or CIA are often required or preferred. Detail oriented: Spot small errors or hidden discrepancies in large data sets. Analytical thinking: Review complex numbers and processes objectively.
