Position objective:

Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to implement livelihood programs by supporting market systems development (MSD), enhancing production practices for farmers' associations, managing cash transfer programming (CTP), and facilitating savings and loans groups (SLG) while fostering social cohesion among target community members.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Economic Recovery Team Leader, the position holder will perform the following tasks:

Promoting SME Development, CTP, Agricultural Inputs Distribution, and Farming Skills Training using Market Systems Development (MSD) Approach


Collaborate with Government and Community Resilience Groups (CRGs) to identify, select, and verify beneficiaries in target communities.
Offer livelihood guidance to individuals, groups, or associations to increase awareness of various business options based on market assessment and beneficiary interests.
Provide beneficiaries with information about livelihood and business development opportunities.
Arrange small business training and business planning activities for beneficiaries
Inform beneficiaries about skills training, market opportunities, and small enterprise creation.
Educate, coach, and mentor farmers on improved agricultural (livestock and crop) production techniques
Support the implementation of Cash Transfer Programmes (CTP) at the ward level; Unconditional/Conditional Cash Grants and Cash for Work
Coordinate with the line manager to plan agricultural inputs distributions using the MSD approach and ensure accountability for distributed inputs.
Connect bulk agriculture produce buyers with farmers' associations and input sellers with farmers.
Work closely with Ministry of Agriculture Extension workers to facilitate crop farming/poultry production training for beneficiaries.
Assist in organizing training and other project-related events.
Establish connections with vocational learning institutions and refer beneficiaries to selected marketable courses of their interest.
Provide administrative support when required.
Submit weekly reports and contribute to the compilation of monthly reports for submission to the line manager.


Stakeholder Coordination


Coordinate with LGA and Ward level stakeholders in consultation with the line manager.
Ensure adherence to protocol through stakeholder consultation at all stages of project implementation.


Social Cohesion Programming


Evaluate the relevance of potential intercommunal dialogue activities linked to livelihoods to enhance dialogue and cooperation between these areas (e.g., joint workshops, peer-to-peer activities, language exchanges, etc.).
Choose beneficiaries to participate in activities through youth empowerment and social safety-net planning in coordination with AVR teams.
Keep an Excel tracking sheet updated to ensure timely data collection.
Contribute to regular reporting on project achievements and challenges as requested by the Livelihoods Officer.


Monitoring & Evaluation


Collaborate closely with the monitoring team and the Livelihood Officer on timely monitoring and evaluation of all components – information, beneficiary selection, beneficiary feedback about activities, etc.
Support the qualitative and quantitative monitoring of the project through team meetings, visits to selected beneficiaries, regular reporting, and other monitoring tools.
Take part in the internal evaluation of the program.

Education and professional experience:


University degree or advanced training/course in Agriculture, Business Administration, Sociology, Social Work, International Affairs, Humanitarian or related field
Experience in livelihood programming and training.
Understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in the country and the region.
1-2 years of working experience in the business field is required

Fluency in Hausa, Kanuri, and other languages spoken in Borno State (written and spoken)
Working knowledge of English (written and spoken)


General Regulations


The employee must follow DRC instructions on safety, confidentiality, and ethical guidelines, including the Code of Conduct and the Humanitarian Accountability Framework.
Employee should not engage in any other paid activity during the DRC contract period without prior authorization.
Employee should not participate in any activity that could harm DRC or the implementation of any project during the DRC contract period.
Employee should not give interviews to the media or publish project-related photos or other material without prior authorization.
Employee shall return all borrowed equipment for the project to DRC after the end of the contract period or upon request.
