Job Title: Head of Finance (with HMO or Insurance Experience)

Location: Ogudu / Ojota - Lagos

Job Summary

  • The Head of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership and oversight for the organization, ensuring sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and effective financial planning.
  • The role requires extensive experience in the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) sector, strong knowledge of healthcare financial operations, and the ability to support business growth through financial strategy and control.
  • The ideal candidate must be ICAN certified and possess a Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the company’s financial strategy aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to the Managing Director and executive team to support business decision-making.
  • Lead long-term financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes.

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Oversee preparation and presentation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of financial records in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Provide financial analysis and performance reports to management and the Board.

HMO Financial Operations:

  • Manage financial processes related to capitation, claims payments, provider reimbursements, and healthcare service costs.
  • Monitor and control medical claims expenditure to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Ensure effective reconciliation between healthcare providers, enrollees, and internal finance records.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Develop and manage the organization’s annual budget.
  • Monitor financial performance against budget and recommend corrective actions.
  • Implement cost control measures to improve operational efficiency and profitability.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with regulations from National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee statutory financial obligations including tax compliance, pension remittances, and regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and corporate governance standards.

Internal Control & Risk Management:

  • Establish and maintain robust internal financial control systems.
  • Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure prompt resolution of audit findings.

Treasury & Cash Flow Management:

  • Oversee treasury operations including cash flow planning, banking relationships, and liquidity management.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of financial resources and investment opportunities.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management:

  • Manage financial relationships with healthcare providers, insurance partners, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure timely settlement of provider claims and contractual financial obligations.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team to achieve departmental goals.

  • Build a high-performing finance function through effective supervision, training, and performance management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • ICAN certification (mandatory).
  • 8–12 years progressive finance experience, with at least 4–5 years in a senior finance leadership role.
  • Strong experience in the HMO or healthcare insurance sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting, healthcare claims management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in financial management systems and advanced Excel/data analysis skills.
