Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Internal Auditor / Internal Control Officer with a strong background in the farming or agriculture sector. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes, with a focus on agricultural operations, supply chain management, input-output control, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and monitor internal control systems to ensure operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance, especially across farming activities.
Conduct regular audits of farm operations, procurement, inventory, and sales processes to detect inefficiencies, fraud, or regulatory breaches.
Review agricultural production records, input usage (fertilizers, seeds, pesticides), harvest yields, and storage/logistics to assess accuracy and performance.
Evaluate compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and relevant agricultural laws or certifications (e.g. GAP, HACCP, sustainability requirements).
Prepare detailed audit reports and provide actionable recommendations to improve financial controls, resource use, and risk mitigation.
Monitor the implementation of corrective action plans and follow up to ensure compliance.
Assist management in the development and refinement of internal policies and SOPs related to agricultural operations and farm finance.
Collaborate with field teams, agronomists, and supply chain managers to assess operational risks and control effectiveness.
Conduct risk assessments for new projects, expansions, or third-party partnerships in the agriculture value chain.
Qualifications:
Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, Agribusiness, or related field.
Professional certification preferred (e.g., CIA, CPA, CISA).
2–3 years of internal audit or internal control experience, preferably within the farming or agribusiness sector.
Strong understanding of agricultural production cycles, farm accounting, and sector-specific risks (climate, pests, yield variability, etc.).
Knowledge of ERP systems and agricultural management software is a plus.
Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently and conduct field audits in rural/agricultural settings.
Preferred Skills:
Experience auditing agricultural cooperatives, out-grower schemes, or contract farming arrangements.
Familiarity with commodity trading, agricultural subsidies, or donor-funded agri-projects.
Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
