 Job Title: Community Development Officer

Location: Okpella, Edo  Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Community Development Officer at Okpella Cement Limited who will be responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of community relations and development initiatives within the company’s host communities. The role involves engaging community stakeholders, supporting social investment programmes, resolving community-related issues, promoting peaceful coexistence, maintaining accurate community records, and ensuring that company-community engagements align with business objectives, corporate social responsibility commitments, and applicable policies.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of community development programmes, stakeholder engagement activities, and corporate social responsibility initiatives within host communities. Liaise with community leaders, youth groups, traditional institutions, government representatives, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders to promote harmonious company-community relations. Assist in identifying community needs, concerns, expectations, and potential risks, and provide timely feedback and recommendations to management. Monitor community-related issues, grievances, commitments, agreements, and interventions, and support timely resolution in line with company policies and approved procedures. Maintain accurate records of community engagements, minutes of meetings, attendance registers, correspondence, project updates, commitments, and other relevant documentation. Support the implementation and monitoring of community projects, empowerment programmes, educational support, health initiatives, infrastructure interventions, and other social investment activities. Collaborate with internal departments, contractors, security, government agencies, and community representatives to address operational matters that may affect host community relations. Prepare periodic community relations reports, project updates, stakeholder engagement reports, incident reports, and other management information for decision-making. Ensure compliance with company policies, community engagement protocols, CSR guidelines, IMS standards, safety requirements, ethical standards, and applicable statutory regulations. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Community Affairs, Head of HAM and Admin, or designated supervisor.


Requirements
Education and Work Experience:

First Degree or Higher National Diploma in Community Development, Sociology, Social Work, Political Science, Public Administration, Mass Communication, Business Administration, Humanities, or a related field. Relevant professional certification or training in Community Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility, Stakeholder Management, Conflict Resolution, Project Management, or related areas will be an added advantage. Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, corporate social responsibility, public affairs, social performance, or community development, preferably within manufacturing, cement, mining, construction, or heavy industrial environment.


Skills And Competencies:

Good knowledge of community relations, stakeholder engagement, corporate social responsibility, grievance management, social investment, and community development practices. Strong communication, negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, report writing, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build trust, manage sensitive community issues, engage diverse stakeholders, and support peaceful coexistence between the company and host communities. Good planning, organizing, monitoring, documentation, and project coordination skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, records management, reporting, presentations, and community engagement documentation. High level of integrity, confidentiality, patience, cultural awareness, professionalism, accountability, and commitment to ethical community engagement.
