Job Summary
The Internal Controller – LBC Operations is responsible for leading the operational control environment across Sunbeth's Licensed Buying Company (LBC) activities in Ghana, with specific focus on disbursement and payment controls, field data integrity, and reconciliations.
The role ensures that processes across districts, depots, and head office comply with internal policies, COCOBOD/LBC regulations, and best practices, thereby safeguarding assets and driving operational efficiency.
Core Responsibilities and Key Result Areas
Manage field data collection and validation processes (purchase records, depot stock reports, district summaries), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission from all LBC districts.
Review and monitor compliance with company policies, DOA limits, and regulatory requirements (e.g., COCOBOD/LBC regulations).
Coordinate reconciliation of district and depot records with head office accounts, covering purchases, stocks, cash/advance positions and other operational metrics.
Review and test controls around cash disbursement, stock movements, Take-Over (TOR) processes and other key risk points across the LBC value chain, recommending improvements where gaps are identified.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists and control tools for LBC operations.
Coordinate periodic risk assessments and maintain risk registers for Ghana operations.
Prepare periodic internal control and operations performance reports for management.
Support investigations into suspected fraud, irregularities or control breaches in LBC operations, coordinating with HR and management on disciplinary or remedial actions.
Support management in strengthening internal controls, improving operational efficiency and promoting a strong compliance culture.
Key Performance IndicatorsNumber and severity of control breaches and irregularities detected in LBC operations.
Timeliness and completeness of district and depot data submission and reconciliations.
Reduction in cash leakages, stock losses, and unexplained variances over time.
Compliance rate with disbursement/payment procedures and COCOBOD/LBC regulatory requirements.
Quality and timeliness of internal control reporting to management, and closure rate of issues raised by audits or reviews.
RequirementsEducational Requirement:Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional Requirements:A professional qualification (ACCA, CA, CIA, or ICAG) is an advantage.
Experience Requirements:5–7 years' experience in internal control, internal audit, or operations/financial control, preferably within the cocoa, agri-commodities or FMCG trading sector.
Demonstrated experience managing cash/disbursement controls in a field-based, multi-location purchasing environment.
Sound understanding of the COCOBOD/LBC regulatory framework and cocoa purchasing operations is strongly preferred.
Knowledge Requirements:Strong working knowledge of internal control frameworks, risk management and fraud investigation techniques.
Working knowledge of EUDR due diligence and child labour monitoring (CLMRS) requirements in cocoa supply chains.
Sound understanding of agricultural commodity purchasing operations and the practical realities of rural cocoa-growing districts.
Skill Requirement:Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills, with keen attention to detail across high-volume field transactions.
Effective report-writing and communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to senior management.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong data analysis skills.
Personal Abilities:High integrity and objectivity, with the confidence to challenge non-compliance at all levels of the organization.
Resilience, sound judgement and the ability to work independently across remote field locations.
