 Job Title: Legal Officer

Location: Costain, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Officer to provide in-house legal and administrative support to our company. The ideal candidate will be primarily responsible for drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts and agreements with suppliers, vendors, and contractors. The Legal Officer will focus on routine legal documentation, contract administration, compliance support, and coordinating with outsourced legal professionals when necessary. The ideal candidate should have sound knowledge of contract documentation, strong attention to detail, and the ability to identify potential legal and contractual risks.


Key Responsibilities

Draft, review, and manage contracts and agreements with suppliers, vendors, contractors and service providers. Prepare standard agreements, letters, undertakings, memoranda, and other routine legal documents as required by the company. Review contractual terms and conditions to ensure that the company's interests are adequately protected and potential risks are identified. Maintain an organized and up-to-date database of contracts, agreements, legal documents, and relevant statutory records. Monitor contract expiry dates, renewal timelines, obligations, and key deliverables to ensure timely action by relevant departments. Liaise with procurement, finance, operations, project, and administrative teams on contract-related matters. Assist in the review and documentation of supplier and contractor relationships, including ensuring that relevant agreements are properly executed and filed. Support the company in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contractual obligations, and internal policies. Conduct basic legal research and provide administrative support on routine legal and regulatory matters affecting the company. Liaise with the company's external legal counsel on complex legal matters, disputes, litigation, and other specialized legal issues when required. Assist in gathering relevant documents and information required by external solicitors for legal proceedings, contract reviews, or advisory matters. Identify and escalate potential legal, contractual, and compliance risks to management and/or external legal counsel. Provide general legal support to management and other departments on routine business and contractual matters.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized institution. 2-4 years of experience, preferably with experience in contract drafting, commercial law, or corporate legal practice. Previous experience in construction, engineering, real estate, procurement, or related industry will be an added advantage. Good knowledge of contract drafting, contract review, and general commercial legal practices. Familiarity with supplier, vendor, contractor, and service agreements. Basic understanding of Nigerian corporate, commercial, employment, and regulatory laws. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong written and verbal communication skills
