Job Title: Media Analyst

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Media Analyst to monitor, analyse, and interpret traditional and digital media trends that influence the organisation's reputation and strategic communications. The successful candidate will be responsible for tracking media coverage, analysing social media conversations, identifying emerging narratives, and providing actionable insights that inform communication strategies, stakeholder engagement, and reputation management. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of the media landscape and can transform complex media data into practical recommendations that support organisational decision-making and strategic communications.
Monitor print, broadcast, online, and social media platforms for relevant conversations, news, and emerging issues. Analyse media coverage to identify trends, public sentiment, key influencers, and opportunities for engagement. Conduct daily media monitoring and produce timely reports, summaries, and media intelligence briefs. Track social media conversations across platforms such as X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube. Analyse social media performance metrics, audience behaviour, engagement trends, and campaign effectiveness. Identify misinformation, disinformation, and reputational risks, providing recommendations for appropriate responses. Monitor issues relating to government policies, public affairs, development, and diplomacy that may impact the organisation's work. Develop dashboards and visual reports that communicate media insights to management and project teams. Support communication campaigns with audience insights and evidence-based recommendations. Conduct stakeholder and influencer mapping to identify strategic engagement opportunities. Provide regular analysis of media narratives and recommend proactive communication approaches. Ensure accurate documentation of monitoring activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Data Analytics, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years' experience in media monitoring, media analysis, communications research, or digital analytics. Demonstrated experience analysing traditional media and social media trends. Experience using media monitoring and social listening tools such as Brand24, Meltwater, Talkwalker, Meltwater, Hootsuite, Google Alerts, or similar platforms. Experience preparing analytical reports and presenting findings to senior management. Understanding of Nigeria's media landscape and the broader political, development, and public policy environment.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interpret large volumes of qualitative and quantitative data. Knowledge of media measurement metrics, sentiment analysis, and audience analytics. Strong research and report-writing skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify emerging issues quickly. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualisation tools. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Strong organisational and time management skills.
Experience supporting communications for development, public affairs, diplomatic, or international organisations. Knowledge of media intelligence, crisis communications, and reputation management. Familiarity with AI-powered media monitoring and analytics tools.
