POSITION OVERVIEW

The WGFS Facilitator will contribute to the efficient operation of the Women and Girls Friendly Space in Anka and Gusau (Zamfara state) by coordinating and leading psychosocial activities, life skills sessions, awareness campaigns, and GBV prevention and response referrals. The facilitator will maintain the space as a safe, empowering, and supportive environment for displaced and host community women and girls.

KEY DUTIES

Activity Coordination


Organize and lead daily WGFS activities, such as:
Coordinate and implement daily activities at the WGFS, including:
Group sessions for psychosocial support (PSS)
Skills training for life and vocational purposes
Awareness sessions on GBV prevention
Activities promoting self-care, recreation, and well-being
Tailor sessions to be culturally appropriate, interactive, and age-specific for adolescent girls and women.
Ensure the inclusion of vulnerable groups (e.g., individuals with disabilities, female-headed households).


GBV and Protection Assistance


Recognize and direct GBV survivors and at-risk individuals to caseworkers or specialized services following established referral pathways and confidentiality protocols.
Adopt a survivor-centered approach in all interactions, prioritizing safety, dignity, and respect.
Adhere to ethical and confidential case management practices in line with GBV guiding principles.


Safe Space Administration


Maintain a clean, secure, accessible, and inviting WGFS environment for all women and girls.
Track attendance and engagement, and gather regular feedback to inform activity planning.
Promptly report any maintenance, safety, or accessibility concerns.


Community Engagement


Organize and conduct outreach initiatives in collaboration with volunteers and community representatives to promote WGFS services.
Establish rapport with women leaders, youth, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders to ensure community acceptance and backing.
Encourage community involvement in the design and assessment of activities.


Monitoring and Reporting


Keep accurate records of WGFS activities, attendance, referrals, and feedback.
Deliver regular reports and updates to the PSS Officer or Senior Protection Officer.
Support donor reporting and data analysis when necessary.


Team Collaboration and Coordination


Engage in team planning, debriefings, supervision sessions, and skill-building workshops.
Foster positive team dynamics and well-being; promote respectful, inclusive communication.
Contribute to case reviews and assist in coordinating workload with caseworkers.


REPORTING, ADMINISTRATIVE AND TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Assist in the planning, implementation, and reporting of all PSS activities through monthly work plans, schedules, and team management.
Support decision-making regarding material assistance to beneficiaries, documenting the same for both technical and financial reporting purposes.
Oversee PSS activities, ensuring that progress is properly recorded in a timely manner through regular case file review by the PSS officer.
Take part in weekly individual supervision sessions with the PSS Officer, promptly addressing any cases of special/emergency needs, discussing ongoing issues, and strategizing on project and program development.
Manage and supervise psychosocial support activities conducted in the WGFS and/or communities.
Compile all reports on PSS activities in accordance with INTERSOS and donor reporting requirements, and submit these weekly to the PSS officer for further processing. Engage in regular feedback and dialogue with the PSS Officer on quantitative and qualitative reporting.


DATA PROTECTION, CONFIDENTIALITY & ADHERENCE TO PROTECTION PRINCIPLES


Guarantee the secure handling and storage of sensitive information, adhering to confidentiality and protection protocols.
Carry out activities in alignment with core protection principles: do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability, and the need-to-know basis.
Perform regular case file checks to ensure compliance with internal SOPs and donor standards.
Adhere to Do-No-Harm, Non-discrimination, Confidentiality, Accountability, and Need-to-know principles.


ADDITIONAL PSS & WGFS RESPONSIBILITIES


Identify PSS and security concerns and contribute to the development of appropriate responses.
Recognize and assist in the analysis of PSS trends within the overall caseload.
Manage the planning and implementation of vocational training/life skills acquisition, recreational activities, focus group discussions, and training workshops as directed by the supervisory/managerial team.
Oversee and supervise all activities in the WGFS, ensuring that schedules and plans align with SOPs and that activities are conducted according to project guidelines.
Enhance existing community-based PSS and peer support group activities, where present, and help establish them where they do not currently exist.
Work together and coordinate with INTERSOS teams from other departments (WASH, Health & Nutrition, Livelihoods, etc.) to ensure comprehensive solutions to beneficiaries' needs.
Attend external meetings and training on PSS issues, as well as case conferences with partners when required.
Maintain positive relationships and coordination with key PSS service providers in the intervention area, emphasizing the identification of specific needs.
Identify and report gaps in the availability and quality of PSS service provision in the target areas.
Perform any other tasks specified by the supervisor/managerial team.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience:


Minimum of National Diploma (ND) or equivalent in Social Work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Education, or a related field.
At least 1–2 years of experience working with an INGO/NGO supporting women and/or girls in community settings, particularly in GBV, protection, or psychosocial support roles.
Experience working in Zamfara or similar humanitarian contexts, or the northwest states, is preferred.
Strong understanding of confidentiality, empathy, and survivor-centered principles.
Fluency in Hausa is required; knowledge of local dialects (e.g., Fulfulde) is an advantage.
