Job Summary
The role will provide legal leadership across corporate governance, commercial transactions, contracts, regulatory compliance, risk management, dispute resolution and other legal matters affecting the company and its subsidiaries.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide strategic legal advice to Management and the Board where required.
Lead the company's legal function and provide legal oversight across the business.
Review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements, contracts and other legal documents.
Provide legal support for technology, software, licensing, outsourcing and service agreements.
Advise on corporate governance and regulatory matters.
Support Board and shareholder-related legal and governance requirements.
Monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations and statutory requirements.
Manage external legal counsel and other legal service providers.
Advise Management on legal risks associated with business decisions and transactions.
Support mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, investments and other strategic transactions.
Manage litigation, disputes and other contentious matters.
Develop and maintain legal policies, templates and contract standards.
Support contract risk assessment and legal due diligence.
Provide guidance on intellectual property, data protection, employment and technology-related legal matters.
Maintain an effective legal risk register and escalation framework.
Keep Management informed of material legal and regulatory developments.
RequirementsLL.B degree from a recognised university.
Called to the Nigerian Bar.
8+ years' post-call legal experience, preferably with significant in-house corporate experience.
Strong experience in commercial and corporate law.
Experience reviewing and negotiating complex technology and commercial contracts.
Strong understanding of corporate governance and regulatory requirements.
Experience supporting a publicly listed company will be a strong advantage.
Experience managing external counsel and legal disputes.
Strong understanding of technology, data protection and intellectual property matters.
Excellent negotiation, communication and analytical skills.
Strong commercial awareness and ability to provide practical business-oriented legal advice.
