Job Title: Litigation Clerk

The Litigation Clerk will provide essential high-level support to our team of advocates. You will be responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of litigation cases, ensuring strict adherence to court rules and procedures, and maintaining the highest standard of organization. Your expertise will be critical to the smooth operation and success of our litigation department.
Open new client matters and conduct comprehensive conflict checks. Maintain and manage both physical and electronic case files with the highest level of accuracy and organization. Master the firm's litigation calendar, meticulously tracking and diarising all critical deadlines for filings, hearings, motions, appeals, and trials across various courts (High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, NIC, etc.). Closely monitor daily cause lists for the firm's cases and notify the relevant attorneys promptly.
Act as the firm's expert on the filing requirements and procedures of key Lagos judiciary divisions (e.g., Lagos State High Court, Ikeja Judicial Division, Federal High Court, Lagos). Prepare and file court processes, including writs, motions, originating summons, pleadings, and appeals. Liaise directly with court registry staff to ensure efficient filing and to follow up on assigned judges, hearing dates, and other court communications. Ensure proper service of processes on opposing counsel and parties.
Independently draft, review, and proofread standard court processes, correspondence, and affidavits under the direction of an attorney. Prepare and assemble bundles of documents, exhibits, and authorities for court hearings and trials. Manage the certification of documents and notarization processes as required.
Serve as a professional point of contact for clients, providing updates on case filing and hearing dates. Communicate effectively with opposing counsel's offices on procedural matters. Schedule meetings, court dates, and depositions (where applicable).
A degree, HND, or Paralegal Studies, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of hands-on litigation support experience in a reputable Nigerian law firm. Expert, practical knowledge of Nigerian court rules and filing procedures in Lagos. Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Proven ability to work independently and manage a high-volume caseload. Experience with Nigerian case management system.
