Job Title:  Business Developer

The Business Developer is responsible for driving business growth, revenue generation, client acquisition, strategic partnerships, and market expansion for the hospitality business. The role involves identifying and converting new business opportunities, developing strong relationships with corporate clients and key stakeholders, increasing occupancy and utilization of the property's facilities, and creating new revenue streams across accommodation, food and beverage, events, conferences, meetings, leisure, and other hospitality services. The Business Developer will serve as a key link between the hospitality business and its target markets, including corporate organizations, government institutions, event planners, travel agencies, tour operators, diplomatic organizations, social groups, and individual clients. The role requires a commercially driven professional with strong knowledge of the Lagos hospitality market, excellent networking and negotiation skills, and a proven ability to convert relationships and opportunities into measurable revenue.

Role Responsibilities


Business Development & Revenue Growth:

Develop and execute business development strategies to achieve revenue and growth targets. Identify new business opportunities across corporate, leisure, events, hospitality, and institutional markets. Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients and business opportunities. Prospect for new clients through networking, referrals, cold outreach, industry events, digital channels, and strategic introductions. Convert qualified leads into paying customers and long-term accounts. Identify opportunities to increase revenue from rooms, restaurants, bars, conference facilities, events, banqueting, catering, leisure facilities, and other hospitality offerings. Develop initiatives that increase property utilization during low-demand periods. Prepare and implement business development plans aligned with the organization's overall commercial objectives. Achieve agreed monthly, quarterly, and annual business development targets.


Corporate & Institutional Sales:

Identify, target, and acquire corporate accounts within Lagos and surrounding business markets. Build relationships with companies, government institutions, NGOs, diplomatic organizations, embassies, financial institutions, schools, and other relevant organizations. Develop corporate accommodation, meeting, conference, catering, and event packages. Negotiate corporate rates, contracts, service agreements, and partnership arrangements within approved company policies. Maintain regular contact with existing corporate clients to encourage repeat business and strengthen account relationships. Conduct client visits and presentations to promote the property's services and facilities. Monitor corporate account performance and identify opportunities for increased business.

Events, Conferences & Hospitality Sales:

Generate business for conferences, meetings, weddings, social events, corporate events, private functions, and other hospitality-related activities. Build relationships with event planners, wedding planners, event centers, travel agencies, tour operators, production companies, and entertainment businesses. Develop and promote attractive event and hospitality packages. Respond promptly to enquiries, prepare proposals, and follow up on quotations to secure bookings. Coordinate with Operations, Food & Beverage, Front Office, Events, and Marketing teams to ensure successful delivery of contracted services. Develop recurring partnerships with event organizers and corporate event planners. Identify opportunities for group bookings, retreats, seminars, workshops, and corporate functions.


Strategic Partnerships:

Identify and establish mutually beneficial partnerships that can generate business and increase brand visibility. Develop relationships with travel agencies, online travel agencies (OTAs), tour operators, corporate travel managers, event companies, lifestyle brands, and relevant hospitality partners. Explore partnership opportunities with organizations, associations, clubs, and professional networks. Represent the organization at business networking events, trade fairs, exhibitions, hospitality forums, and industry functions. Maintain a strong professional network within the Lagos business and hospitality community. Evaluate partnership opportunities based on commercial value, strategic relevance, and potential return on investment.


Market Research & Competitive Intelligence:

Conduct regular research on the Lagos hospitality, tourism, events, and corporate accommodation market. Monitor competitor pricing, promotions, services, packages, facilities, and market positioning. Identify emerging customer needs, market trends, and potential  business opportunities. Provide management with insights on market developments and competitor activities. Recommend new products, packages, services, and commercial initiatives based on market intelligence. Identify underserved market segments and develop strategies to capture them.

Client Relationship  Management:

Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients. Maintain an up-to-date database of prospects, corporate accounts, partners, and key contacts. Conduct regular client follow-ups to drive repeat business and referrals. Understand client needs and recommend suitable hospitality solutions. Resolve commercial and client-related concerns professionally and escalate operational issues where necessary. Gather client feedback and communicate relevant insights to  management and operational teams. Develop strategies to improve client retention and customer lifetime value.


Sales & Marketing Collaboration:

Work closely with the Sales & Marketing team to develop and execute campaigns that generate qualified leads. Support the development of promotional offers, corporate packages, seasonal campaigns, and hospitality products. Provide commercial input into digital marketing and social media campaigns. Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure consistent positioning of the property's products and services. Support promotional activities, exhibitions, networking events, open days, and client engagement initiatives. Leverage digital platforms and professional networks to generate business leads.

Proposal, Negotiation & Business Conversion:

Prepare professional proposals, quotations, presentations, and commercial offers for prospective clients. Lead commercial negotiations within approved pricing and authority limits. Follow up systematically on proposals and outstanding opportunities. Maintain accurate records of sales activities, proposals, negotiations, and conversion outcomes. Identify barriers to conversion and develop strategies to close deals. Ensure agreed commercial terms are properly documented and communicated to relevant departments.


Revenue & Performance Management:

Monitor business development performance against agreed targets and KPIs. Track lead generation, conversion rates, revenue generated, client acquisition, account growth, and repeat business. Prepare regular sales and business development reports for management. Analyze revenue performance across different customer segments and business channels. Recommend corrective actions where performance falls below target. Contribute to revenue forecasting and business planning. Ensure business development activities deliver measurable commercial value.


Brand Representation & Stakeholder Engagement:

Represent the hospitality business professionally when engaging with clients, partners, industry bodies, and external stakeholders. Promote the organization's brand, services, values, and market positioning. Develop strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within the Lagos hospitality and business ecosystem. Attend relevant industry, corporate, tourism, networking, and community events. Maintain a professional image consistent with the organization's hospitality standards.


Internal Collaboration:

Work closely with the General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Events, Finance, and Operations teams. Communicate confirmed business requirements effectively to operational departments. Ensure client expectations are clearly communicated and commercially agreed commitments are achievable. Participate in commercial and operational meetings as required. Support cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving revenue and customer experience.


Reporting & Administration:

Maintain accurate records of prospects, leads, clients, contracts, proposals, and business activities. Submit weekly and monthly business development reports to management. Provide regular updates on the sales pipeline and expected revenue. Maintain confidentiality of client information and company commercial data. Ensure all business development activities comply with company policies and approved procedures. Provide management with timely reports on market opportunities, challenges, and business risks.

Performance in this role will be measured against agreed commercial objectives, including:

New corporate accounts acquired. Monthly and annual revenue generated. Lead generation and conversion rate. Growth in corporate and institutional business. Qualifications and Requirements


Education & Certifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hospitality Management, Tourism, Sales, or a related field. Professional certification in Sales, Marketing, Business Development, or Hospitality is an added advantage. Additional qualifications in  Business Management, Hospitality, or Strategic Marketing will be an advantage.


Experience:

3–5 years of experience in Business Development, Sales, Corporate Sales, Hospitality Sales, or a related commercial role. Previous experience within the hospitality, hotel, events, tourism, restaurant, leisure, or service industry is strongly preferred. Proven track record of meeting or exceeding  sales and revenue targets. Demonstrable experience acquiring corporate clients and developing strategic partnerships. Experience selling hospitality products such as accommodation, events, conferences, banqueting, catering, or related services. Strong knowledge of the Lagos business and hospitality market is highly desirable.
