Responsibilities
Act as the main liaison between DLE and community leaders, ensuring timely and transparentcommunication on matters affecting the communities.
Establish regular meetings with community representatives to discuss ongoing and upcomingprojects, and address community concerns.
Communicate DLE’s policies, community development plans, and corporate socialresponsibility (CSR) initiatives to the communities in a clear and culturally appropriate manner.
Mediate disputes and address grievances between DLE and the communities, finding solutions that are agreeable to both parties.
Work proactively to prevent conflicts by identifying potential community issues early and addressing them before they escalate.
Implement and maintain systems for tracking and addressing complaints or concerns raised by the communities.
Assist in planning and coordinating CSR projects that align with both DLE’s goals and the communities’ needs.
Support the monitoring of these projects to ensure they are effectively contributing to community development and addressing any gaps or concerns.
Ensure DLE complies with relevant community engagement regulations and policies.
Keep the management team updated on community-related legal requirements and ensure adherence to these standards.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Relations, Community Development, or a related field.
Certification in Public Relations, Community Relations, or from recognized professional bodies is an added advantage.
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in community liaison/relations or similar roles, preferably in the oil & gas, engineering, or construction sectors.
Experience working in the Niger Delta or with communities in high-conflict environments is highly desirable.
Proficiency in local languages or dialects is an advantage.
Experienced in building respectful relationships with communities, engaging stakeholders, and navigating local customs and power structures.
Proven ability to manage and resolve conflicts, de-escalate tensions, and negotiate practical, mutually beneficial solutions.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences clearly, empathetically, and effectively.
Strong collaboration skills, with a track record of working productively with internal teams, NGOs, and local authorities.
Self-motivated and results-oriented, with sound judgment and the ability to remain composed and professional in complex situations.
