We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Crawler Mechanical Crane Operator – Offshore
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

The Crawler Mechanical Crane Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of crawler-mounted mechanical cranes for lifting, moving, positioning, and lowering heavy equipment, materials, pipes, machinery, and other loads on offshore installations, vessels, construction sites, and marine facilities. The operator must have proven offshore experience and a strong understanding of lifting operations, crane safety, load charts, rigging procedures, and offshore work practices.
Operate crawler mechanical cranes safely and efficiently during offshore lifting and material-handling operations. Conduct pre-start and routine inspections of the crane, including mechanical, hydraulic, structural, wire-rope, hook, brake, and safety components. Interpret and comply with crane load charts, lifting plans, and manufacturers' operating limits. Carry out lifting, lowering, slewing, and positioning operations in accordance with approved lifting procedures. Work closely with riggers, banksmen/slingers, lifting supervisors, deck crews, and other offshore personnel. Ensure that loads are properly secured, balanced, and within the crane's safe working load (SWL). Monitor crane operating conditions and immediately report defects, abnormal noises, leaks, or unsafe conditions. Maintain proper communication with banksmen and lifting teams using approved hand signals and radio communication. Assist with the loading and unloading of heavy equipment, materials, containers, pipes, and offshore machinery. Maintain accurate crane operation, inspection, maintenance, and lifting records. Participate in toolbox talks, pre-job meetings, risk assessments, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA). Comply with offshore permit-to-work systems and company lifting and safety procedures. Stop lifting operations whenever unsafe conditions, excessive wind, poor visibility, equipment malfunction, or other hazards are identified. Support routine maintenance and basic mechanical checks of the crane where authorised. Maintain good housekeeping around the crane operating area. Participate in emergency response, drills, and other offshore safety activities.
Offshore-Specific Responsibilities:
Operate the crane safely in challenging offshore conditions, including wind, wave movement, restricted deck space, and changing weather conditions. Understand offshore lifting restrictions and environmental limitations. Coordinate with deck crews during cargo handling and supply operations. Follow marine and offshore lifting procedures when transferring equipment and materials between vessels and offshore installations. Maintain constant awareness of personnel exclusion zones and suspended-load hazards.
Required Qualifications & Experience
3–5 years' experience as a Crawler Crane Operator, preferably with substantial offshore experience. Relevant technical or mechanical qualification is an advantage. Valid and recognised Crane Operator Certification/Licence appropriate to the equipment and jurisdiction. Proven experience operating mechanical crawler cranes in heavy lifting environments. Offshore experience in oil & gas, marine construction, offshore construction, or related industries. Good knowledge of crane load charts, lifting accessories, rigging practices, and safe lifting procedures. Ability to read and understand lifting plans and crane operating manuals. Good understanding of mechanical crane systems and basic troubleshooting.
Offshore Certifications
Candidates should possess relevant and valid offshore certifications as required by the employer/client, which may include:
BOSIET/FOET or equivalent offshore safety training. HUET, where applicable. Offshore medical fitness certificate. Crane operator certification. Banksman/Slinger or basic lifting awareness certification, where required. HSE and emergency response training.
Excellent crane operating skills. Strong mechanical aptitude. Good knowledge of lifting operations. Excellent spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination. Ability to work under pressure and in difficult offshore conditions. Strong safety awareness and commitment to HSE procedures. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to identify lifting hazards and take appropriate corrective action. Physically and mentally fit for offshore work.
