Job Title: Legal Officer

Location: Ajao Estate, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Industry: Real Estate & Property Development About the Role

We are seeking a highly competent, detail-oriented, and proactive Legal Officer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate must have 3 – 5 years of relevant legal experience in the real estate and property development sector and possess a sound understanding of Nigerian property laws, land documentation, regulatory compliance, and commercial transactions.


Key Responsibilities

Prepare, review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, deeds, leases, MOUs, and other legal documents. Conduct legal due diligence on land and property acquisitions. Verify land titles and coordinate searches at relevant government agencies, including land registries. Facilitate perfection of title documents, including Governor's Consent, Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), Deeds of Assignment, and other property documentation. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Provide legal advice on land acquisition, development projects, property sales, and commercial transactions. Manage litigation matters and liaise with external solicitors where necessary. Handle dispute resolution, mediation, and recovery matters involving clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. Support contract administration and monitor legal obligations under agreements. Represent the company before regulatory agencies and government institutions when required. Monitor changes in relevant laws and advise management on legal implications. Maintain proper custody of legal documents and company records. Provide legal support to all business units on operational and strategic matters.


Qualifications

LL.B Degree from a recognized university. Membership of the Nigerian Bar. Minimum of 5 years' post-call experience, with at least of 3 years substantial experience in real estate and property development.


Required Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of Nigerian property and land laws. Excellent legal drafting and contract review skills. Sound knowledge of land documentation and title perfection processes. Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal documentation systems.
