The Field Officer – Commodity Procurement is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring high-quality cocoa beans and cashew nuts from licensed buying agents and farmers. This role plays a critical part in achieving procurement targets, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring timely delivery within assigned territories. The position requires strong relationship management, field operations oversight, and a deep understanding of local commodity markets.

Job Details

Procurement Execution:


Source, negotiate, and procure quality cocoa and cashew from licensed buying agents, cooperatives, and local aggregators in line with procurement targets.


Target Achievement:


Ensure timely attainment of volume, quality, and cost targets in line with procurement plans and schedules.


Supplier Relationship Management:


Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and key stakeholders to guarantee a consistent and reliable supply of commodities.


Market Intelligence:


Monitor local market trends, pricing, supply dynamics, and competitor activity to inform sourcing strategy and negotiation approach.


Quality Assurance:


Ensure that procured commodities meet defined quality specifications through proper grading, inspection, and sampling processes.


Documentation & Reporting:


Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records, supplier data, and transaction reports. Ensure timely and transparent reporting of all procurement activities.


Compliance & Ethics:


Adhere to the organization’s procurement policies, ethical sourcing standards, and community engagement protocols. Promote fair trade and sustainability practices.


Field Coordination:


Coordinate field visits, supplier meetings, and logistics to facilitate efficient sourcing and delivery operations.


Requirements


Minimum of OND/HND/Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field.
2+ years of experience in commodity sourcing, preferably cocoa and/or cashew.
Strong knowledge of local procurement networks and licensed buying agents.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to meet targets and work under pressure in rural and semi-urban environments.
Basic understanding of commodity quality standards and grading processes.
Proficiency in documentation and report writing.
Fluency in English and relevant local languages is an advantage.
Willingness to travel frequently and work in field locations.
