Employment Type: Full-time Job Summary

The Junior Accountant is responsible for supporting the Finance department by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, preparing reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting. The role requires strong attention to detail, a good understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements. The ideal candidate should have 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.


Key Responsibilities
Financial Transactions:

Prepare and post journal entries accurately and timely. Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions. Verify invoices, payment vouchers, and supporting documentation before processing.


Bank and Account Reconciliation:

Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations. Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies. Prepare reconciliation schedules for management review.


Financial Reporting:

Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Support the preparation of management accounts and financial statements. Generate financial reports and analyses as requested by management.


Cash and Expense Management:

Monitor petty cash transactions and prepare periodic reconciliations. Process staff expense claims and reimbursements. Maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions.


Inventory and Fixed Assets:

Assist in maintaining inventory records and conducting periodic stock counts. Maintain the fixed asset register and process asset additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules. Reconcile inventory and fixed asset balances.


Tax and Statutory Compliance:

Assist with the preparation of VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other statutory schedules. Support timely statutory remittances and tax filings. Maintain records required for tax and audit purposes.


Audit Support:

Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. Assist internal and external auditors during financial audits. Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.


General Accounting Duties:

Maintain accurate and organized financial records. Ensure confidentiality of financial information. Support continuous improvement of accounting processes. Perform other accounting duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. Professional certification such as ICAN (ATS or Associate level), ACCA, or ACA is an added advantage.


Experience:

2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial environment. Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Exposure to inventory accounting and cost accounting is an advantage.


Technical Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIF/SUMIFS, IF functions). Experience using accounting software or ERP systems such as SAP, Sage, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or QuickBooks. Good understanding of IFRS and Nigerian accounting regulations. Strong numerical and analytical skills.
