 Job Title: Head of Projects & Engineering

Location: Victoria Island, Lagos

The Head of Projects & Engineering provides strategic leadership, technical direction, and operational oversight for all engineering and project execution activities across the organisation. The role is responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual, technical, regulatory, and quality requirements. The position oversees the complete project lifecycle from engineering design and planning through procurement support, execution, commissioning, and final handover while driving operational excellence, engineering innovation, and continuous improvement. The role also provides leadership to multidisciplinary engineering and project teams, strengthens project governance, optimises resource utilisation, and supports business growth through technical and commercial expertise.


Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:

Develop and execute the Company's engineering and project delivery strategy in alignment with corporate objectives. Provide strategic leadership across all engineering, project execution, and technical operations. Establish project governance frameworks, engineering standards, and execution methodologies. Drive operational excellence, engineering innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support executive management in business planning, technical strategy, and organisational growth. Develop long-term engineering capability and succession plans.


Project Management & Delivery:

Lead the successful execution of multiple engineering and EPC/EPIC projects simultaneously from initiation through commissioning and final handover. Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within approved budgets, and to the required quality standards. Monitor project schedules, budgets, milestones, risks, and contractual obligations. Review project execution strategies and implement corrective actions where required. Lead project review meetings and resolve technical and operational challenges. Ensure accurate project reporting, documentation, and client acceptance.


Engineering Management:
Provide technical leadership across:

Electrical Engineering Instrumentation & Control Industrial Automation Process Control Systems Mechanical Engineering Telecommunications Infrastructure IT & Network Infrastructure SCADA Systems Integrated Control Systems

Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, technical documentation, drawings, specifications, and engineering deliverables. Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable international standards, client specifications, and statutory regulations. Lead engineering design reviews, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), commissioning, system integration, and project close-out activities. Promote engineering best practices and technical excellence throughout project execution.


Team Leadership & People Management:
Provide leadership and direction to multidisciplinary teams including:

Project Managers Senior Project Engineers Project Engineers IT Project Engineers Design Engineers Site Engineers Commissioning Engineers Project Coordinators Engineering Support Staff Contractors and Subcontractors


Responsibilities include:

Workforce planning and resource allocation. Performance management. Coaching and mentoring. Technical leadership. Succession planning. Training and capability development. Building a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and high performance.


Resource Planning:

Develop resource plans across all active projects. Optimise engineering resource utilisation. Coordinate manpower requirements across projects. Identify resource gaps and recruitment requirements. Support capacity planning for future business growth.


Commercial & Contract Management:

Support Business Development during tendering, proposal preparation, and technical bid evaluations. Review project scope, engineering deliverables, technical specifications, and contractual requirements. Participate in contract reviews and project kick-off meetings. Support change management, variation orders, claims, and commercial negotiations. Ensure engineering deliverables remain aligned with contractual commitments


Procurement & Vendor Management:

Work closely with Supply Chain to ensure timely procurement of project materials and equipment. Participate in technical bid evaluations and vendor selection. Evaluate contractor and subcontractor capability and performance. Monitor vendor performance and contractual compliance. Ensure timely delivery of project materials and equipment.

Quality, HSE & Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure compliance with Company Quality Management Systems. Promote a zero harm safety culture across all project activities. Ensure compliance with HSE policies, engineering standards, statutory regulations, and client requirements. Participate in quality audits, HSE inspections, and corrective action implementation. Ensure engineering deliverables meet client expectations and industry best practices.


Client & Stakeholder Management:

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, OEMs, contractors, regulators, and strategic partners. Represent the Company during technical meetings, project reviews, and client engagements. Resolve technical and commercial issues professionally. Drive high levels of client satisfaction throughout project delivery.


Reporting & Governance:

Prepare executive reports on engineering and project performance. Monitor project KPIs, budgets, schedules, and profitability. Provide accurate forecasts on project progress, risks, commercial exposure, and resource requirements. Report regularly to Executive Management on project delivery performance and engineering operations.

On-time project delivery. Budget adherence. Gross project margins. Project profitability. Client satisfaction. Engineering quality. Resource utilisation. Engineering productivity. HSE performance. Contractor performance. Timely engineering deliverables. Team engagement and retention. Change order management. Project risk management.


Qualifications
Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline. Master's Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline is an added advantage.


Professional Certifications:
One or more of the following:

COREN Registration. Project Management Professional (PMP). PRINCE2. PMI-ACP. Certified Project Director (CPD). NEBOSH or equivalent HSE certification (added advantage).


Experience:

Minimum of 12 years' progressive engineering and project management experience. Minimum of 5 years in a senior engineering or project leadership role. Proven experience managing multiple complex engineering projects concurrently. Extensive experience within EPC, EPIC, Oil & Gas, Industrial Automation, Manufacturing, Energy, Infrastructure, or related industries. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing client relationships.
